Why Choose Us

Cash for Silver in Los Angeles

South Bay Coin is a licensed, bonded, and insured precious metals dealer that has been buying silver in Los Angeles since 1980. We operate our own in-house refinery, so we pay you directly instead of reselling your silver to a third party at a markup. Pawn shops and jewelry stores buy your silver and send it to a refiner. We are the refiner. Because we process the metal ourselves, we can pay you more for the same item.

Bring your silver to our Lawndale showroom and walk out with cash the same day. We buy sterling jewelry, flatware, silver coins, bars, rounds, scrap, and bullion. We also buy gold, gold coins, and platinum in the same visit. Over 400 five-star Google reviews from sellers across Torrance, Redondo Beach, and the greater South Bay.

Silver Valuation

How Much Is My Sterling Silver Worth?

Your payout depends on two things: weight and purity. Sterling silver (marked .925 or "Sterling") is 92.5% pure silver. We weigh the pure silver content and price it against today's live spot rate. A full sterling silver flatware set from a recognized maker can be worth hundreds to several thousand dollars at current prices, depending on total weight.

Coin silver, fine silver (.999), and silver bullion are each priced based on their metal content. Certain antique or designer sterling pieces (Tiffany, Georg Jensen, antique tea services) may carry value above melt. Not sure what you have? Bring it in. We test and sort everything at no charge, and you are never obligated to sell.

Know Your Silver

Sterling Silver vs. Silver Plate

Sterling silver is a high-purity alloy (92.5% silver) and holds real cash value. Look for a .925 stamp, the word "Sterling," or (on British pieces) a lion hallmark. If you see "EPNS," "silverplate," or "plated," the item has only a thin silver coating over base metal and has no refining value. We do not buy silver-plated items.

Many people are unsure which category their pieces fall into, especially with inherited flatware or older serving pieces. Bring in everything, including the pieces you are unsure about, and we will sort it for you at no charge. If you have sterling silver flatware sitting unused in a drawer, it could be worth hundreds or thousands at today's prices.

2026 Market Update

Why 2026 Is the Best Time to Sell Silver

Silver hit an all-time high of $121.67 per ounce on January 29, 2026, shattering the previous record of $48.70 set in April 2011. As of April 2026, silver is trading around $73 to $76 per ounce. One year ago, silver was approximately $30 to $32 per ounce. That is an increase of over 150% in roughly twelve months.

The rally is driven by a structural supply deficit (six consecutive years of demand exceeding mine output), surging industrial consumption from solar panels, electric vehicles, and electronics, and strong investor demand amid inflation concerns. Silver has outperformed gold in percentage terms over the past year. At current prices, a sterling silver flatware set that was worth $400 a year ago could easily be worth $1,000 or more today.

Silver prices move daily. If your sterling silver, flatware, jewelry, or bars have been sitting unused, now is a strong time to find out what they are worth. Call (310) 363-7808 for a free quote based on today's live spot price.

Local vs. Online

Why Choose a Local Silver Buyer Over Mail-In?

Mail-in silver buyers require you to ship your items, wait days for an appraisal, and hope the offer is fair. If you decline, you wait again for return shipping. Many national mail-in buyers require minimums of $1,000 or 40 ounces of silver and take 10 or more business days to pay. At South Bay Coin, you see every step of the evaluation, hear our offer on the spot, and leave with cash in a single visit. No shipping risk, no delays, no minimums.

We serve sellers from Torrance, Hawthorne, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Carson, Palos Verdes, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and across Los Angeles County. If you cannot visit in person, text photos of your silver to (310) 363-2697 for a preliminary quote before you come in.

Estates & Inheritances

Sell Inherited Silver in Los Angeles

Inherited a box of silver from a parent or grandparent and not sure what is real sterling and what is plated? Bring everything in unsorted. We test every piece at no charge, separate the sterling from the plated, weigh the real silver, and give you one clear offer. No sorting or cleaning required on your end.

We have been helping families across LA County sell inherited silver flatware, tea sets, jewelry, and coin collections for over four decades. Whether you inherited a single ring or a full estate with silver, gold, coins, and watches, we can evaluate and purchase everything in a single appointment. Call (310) 363-7808 or walk in during business hours.

FAQ

Common Questions About Selling Silver

South Bay Coin in Lawndale, CA is the highest-paying silver buyer in the South Bay and greater Los Angeles area. We own our refinery, which means no middleman and a higher payout for you. Walk in any Monday through Saturday for a free, no-obligation appraisal and same-day cash payment.

No. Silver-plated items have only a thin coating of silver over base metal and have no refining value. We only buy solid silver: sterling (.925), fine silver (.999), coin silver, and bullion. If you are unsure what you have, bring it in and we will test it at no charge.

A full sterling silver flatware set can be worth hundreds to several thousands of dollars depending on total weight and today's silver spot price. Sets from Gorham, Reed & Barton, Wallace, and Towle are among the most common we buy. Bring your set in for an exact appraisal and same-day cash offer.

The IRS classifies precious metals as collectibles, so profits from selling silver may be subject to capital gains tax. If you inherited your silver, the taxable gain is based on the value at the date of the original owner's death, not the original purchase price. Consult a tax professional for advice specific to your situation.

No appointment is needed. Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM. For large collections or estate lots, you can call ahead at (310) 363-7808 so we set aside time for a thorough evaluation.

Yes. We regularly buy inherited silver flatware, jewelry, coins, and bullion from estate liquidations across Los Angeles County. Bring a valid photo ID and whatever silver you have. We handle all testing and sorting on our end.

American Silver Eagles, Morgan silver dollars, and pre-1965 U.S. coins are among the most valuable by silver content. Full sterling flatware sets from well-known makers can also be worth several thousand dollars. Antique or designer sterling (Tiffany, Georg Jensen) may carry additional value. Bring everything in and we will identify what you have.

Pawn shops pay well below spot value because they need to resell your silver to a third party at a profit. South Bay Coin processes silver in-house, so there is no middleman cutting into your payout. We also test and weigh everything in front of you, which most pawn shops do not.

Yes. We buy broken chains, single earrings, bent rings, damaged flatware, and any other scrap silver as long as it is real sterling or fine silver. The silver is valued by weight and purity, not appearance.

We pay cash or company check on the spot. No waiting period, no mailing delays, no processing fees. For larger transactions, we can arrange a check for your convenience and security.
